Any business owner or self-employed professional who is associated with the purchase of goods & services is required to file for GST payment. GST payment is a periodical payment which has to be payable by the taxpayer. If you want to run your business smooth you should pay for it. Step 1: You have to log in to your GST portal. If you have done the GST registration then only you can pay GST online. In the login section there are details to fill which includes;
- username
- Your password
- and a captcha code
Fill all the details and then click on the ‘login’ button.
Step 2: After you log in to the GST portal then proceed to the ‘Services’ tab, then in the ‘Services’ go to the ‘Payments’ Section. Then after opening the ‘Payments’ option you have to select ‘Create Challan’ option.
Then click ‘continue to dashboard’.
Step 3: Then in the ‘Create Challan’ window you have to fill all the details that are required. There is ‘Tax liability’ written and below that, you have to enter the amounts such as CGST (0005), IGST (0008), CESS (0009), Delhi SGST (0006). Then enter the sum total of challan and after that write the same amount is words. You can also save challan if you’re not sure or you want to make some changes you can do it later by saving the challan. Now, select the method of payment, i.e, E-payment, Over the counter, NEFT/RTGS. After filling all the details click on ‘Generate Challan’.
There are 3 modes of payment:
E-payment – In this, you can pay through your credit/debit cards or you can do it through net banking also.
- Over the counter means you can do it through your registered bank accounts.
- Payment via NEFT/RTGS from any bank
In any case, there is a limit of Rs. 10,000/ – per challan, for over the counter portion through endorsed banks.
Step 4: After generating challan there will a page details of the GST challan. Here you have to 3 Options to pay the challan: you can pay it through e-payment which is online, you can choose’ over the counter’ payment by which means you can go to your bank and pay in person, or NEFT/RTGS where you can pay it online simply by your debit/credit cards.
Step 5: You can pay the challan either Online through your debit/credit cards or net-banking or you can take a print-out of your challan and make payment in your authorised bank. As soon as you complete your GST payment you are allowed to download the challan. Keep your challan receipt with you as a proof for the future.
Goods And Service Tax Penalty
If the taxpayer did not make the GST payment on time or make short payments, they will be charged a penalty of 10% of the tax amount (minimum Rs. 10,000). If the taxpayer is found fraud, they will be charged 100% penalty or a minimum of Rs. 10,000.
